IMN/HFWA Talk Series: The Web of Life – Linking Land and Water and its Importance to the Island Park Area

July 5, 2025

July 5, 2025 - 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Virtual Presentation via Zoom

Circle July 5th on your calendars and join us for a presentation highlighting the ecological linkages between land and water, based on research conducted in our region by Dr Colden Baxter. This talk will dive into the web of life that links aquatic organisms and terrestrial wildlife together and will set the stage for discussing the application of ecological science in habitats such as the sagebrush flats, wetlands and river-riparian zones along the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River around Island Park. The presentation will be hosted through Zoom.

Dr. Colden Baxter is a Professor of Ecology and Director of the Stream Ecology Center and the Center for Ecological Research & Education at Idaho State University. He grew up ranching and exploring rivers and landscapes with his family, particularly in western Montana and northern Idaho. He received training in biology and geology (BA, Univ. Oregon), ecology (MSc, Univ. Montana), fisheries science and philosophy of science (Ph.D., Oregon State Univ.), and food web studies (postdoctoral fellowship, Colorado State Univ. & Hokkaido Univ., Japan). With many students, collaborators and partners, his research focuses on rivers and streams, ecological linkages between water and land, and connections between people and rivers. He and his wife Lenny are parents to two daughters, Arwen and Iris.
